I am a freelance graphic designer that has a heart for people. I am a graduate of Andrews University, Berrien Springs, MI. I have a B.S. in Media Technology and a minor in Graphic Design. I have over 20 years of professional experience in the graphics industry. This is my first formal teaching opportunity, so I am excited to be on this journey.

Here is a link to my portfolio website: https://opalfoster.myportfolio.com/.

I have years of experience in the disability community. I have been an integral part of the Prince George’s County PODS (Parents of Children with Down syndrome) Planning Community as their Communications Specialist. In this capacity, I designed the PODS logo, has created presentation and promotional graphics, updated their website, set up email/social media campaigns and managed their list serve.

I am also currently working with the Down Syndrome Network of Montgomery County with help managing their website, creating flyers and social media campaigns.

When employed at American Institutes for Research (AIR) in Washington, DC, I served as the Vice President of AccessAIR, an employee resource group (ERG) that promotes a work environment that is inclusive of people with disabilities, their families, and the communities that AIR serves. In that capacity, I helped planned corporate wide events, designed the AccessAIR logo, worked with other ERGs to plan joint events and served on a subcommittee that helped make meetings more accessible throughout the organization.

My proudest accomplishment to date is raising my son Jeremiah, a wonderfully enabled son with Down syndrome. Jeremiah is an energetic 14-year-old that enjoys music, art and soccer. He has interests in cooking and wants to be a chef and to be ‘famous’ one day.

My son and I were featured on CNN’s New Day, ABC News Live and ABC World News Tonight with David Muir as one of the families that was impacted by the COVID crisis. I attribute my resilience and tenacity to my faith in God and positive outlook for better days ahead.
